classroom visitors
I teach both middle school and high school students. I believe on of the more motivating eexperiences in my classroom are when we have visitors who can tell about their careers and their path to that particular job. Not just nuts and bolts about education but what was it that was intriguing or the "draw" that first caught his/her interest. Living on the Northshore of Lake Superior puts my school in the way north, and far from where many STEM career professionals may live and work. However, I also know there are many who travel up this way for rest and relaxation and perhaps a short classroom visit could be part of one of those mini vacations. If you would consider visiting or know of a more local contact, please notify me.

Everyday Scientists
Everyday scientists needed Many K-6th grade students think of scientists as old white men in lab coats, we want to show our student scientists that this is just not true. We are looking for scientists (researchers, laboratory technicians, computer technicians, engineers, etc.) to visit with our school both in persona and virtually to talk about what they do, what education they needed to get there and how a young person can prepare for a career in the sciences. This can be as simple or as intense as your schedule allows. Opportunities include: • In person 10 minutes on the AM live TV news- for all students to see • In person in a classroom where there is a curriculum link to the topic (20-40 minutes) based on the guest speakers needs and ability • Same as above but virtually via Skype or video conferencing, a scientist could also prepare a web based video and participate via email, so it does not have to be live.

Bioscience Presenter for Middle School
I teach a STEM overview class to 5th and 6th graders in the spring. I'd like someone to speak to my classes about biosciences: crops/foods, medical devices, drug/genetic therapies, nanotechnology, etc. It would be great to actually bring items that could be seen and touched and/or a presentation with photos/animations/graphics. This could last anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour. The more visual, participatory or hands-on, the better!
